Without BSAC our club wouldn’t have been able to get out of the changing rooms never mind into the pool.
The British Sub-Aqua Club is the UK’s leading dive club and the sport’s National Governing Body, providing an internationally-recognised diver training and development programme via a network of clubs and centres across the country and overseas.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BRITISH SUB-AQUA CLUB (BSAC)
Prepared by Roy Sherwin January 2015
British Sub-Aqua Club and other diving associations:
The principle governing bodies for Scuba diving in the UK are the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club [SSAC], the sub-Aqua Association (SAA) and the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC).
PADI is an American organisation which provides training through schools (not clubs) on a “commercial” basis. The SSAC, SAA and BSAC are all voluntary associations of which the BSAC is the largest in the UK.
British Sub-Aqua Club history, headquarters and structure:
BSAC formed in London in October 1953. Its original founding members formed its first branch; “London No 1 Branch” 4 May 1954. London No 1 branch is still active today and is based in Marylebone W1.
BSAC Headquarters is based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, and is the centre of a worldwide network of branches. It is the sport’s national governing body. Membership exceeds 33,000 in over 1100 branches worldwide.
Membership of BSAC automatically provides third-party insurance cover, a monthly magazine: “SCUBA” (for diving members), and among many other benefits’, a wide range of discounted products from its shop.
BSAC provides the highest standards of training for recreational scuba diving and Snorkelling. It also provides an instructor training scheme for members with an interest in teaching diving and Snorkelling. Both are well established and along with a particular emphasis on safety are recognised internationally.
Each BSAC branch is a self-contained club whose members are members of the BSAC. Each branch provides diving and snorkel training for its members.
