PURE history:
Primary founding member Oliver “Oli” Kraus introduced UWR (Underwater rugby) to the United Kingdom as he could not find anyone playing the sport which he is so passionate about
Putney Leisure Centre pool was chosen as our base because it is the right depth with good transport links
PURE was designated BSAC branch No 2513 by BSAC HQ 6 June 2013. We had our first training session 19 September 2013
Word of our arrival quickly spread. We were invited to play our first international tournament: the Firenze Cup in Florence, Italy 24-25 May 2014
Since then, the story of our success, has been told in various regional newspapers and magazines, two different Scuba diving publications, radio stations, coverage on two BBC Sports programs, and an appearance on the BBC “One Show”
Social:
Our first social meeting was a barbeque, drinks and a game of Frisbee in Greenwich Park. Hopefully we’ll be having an action replay soon along with many new adventures
Current situation:
We are now becoming more established with each passing month. We get regular visits from experienced players from overseas, usually in London on business for a few days, and more local people who have heard about us and drop in to meet us, join in on a session or to find out more
Looking ahead:
Our future is looking good. We will continue to develop our weekly Thursday night sessions because that’s where we want to be, the fact is there just too much fun to miss.
We have also been invited to play at the 2015 “World Alternative Games” in Llanelli, Wales – 31 January
Summary:
Thank you for your interest in PURE, if you haven’t met us, then why not drop by, you will be most welcomed!
